Focus and Process
The LRRB research focus includes:
Design
Geometrics, materials, environmental, financing, safety, planning, economic development, right of way, social, engineering, community impact, individual impact, public involvement, constructability, economic efficiency, project need.
Construction
Equipment, physical development of a project, management system, tools, materials, partnering, quality, work zone safety.
Maintenance/Operations
Snow removal, safety, level of service, preserve and protect investment, pavement management, maximize service life of project, life cycle costing, methods and materials, equipment, privatization, responding to the public, traffic operation, staffing.
Environmental Compatibility
Natural environment, individual environment, economic environment, and community and social environment, planning, mitigating environmental impacts.
The LRRB research process is as follows:
- Focus group meetings are held with practitioners from throughout the state to identify research needs
- The LRRB Board reviews problem statements.
- Some problem statements are selected for solicited proposals.
- The LRRB Board reviews proposals.
- Some proposals are selected for funding.
- A work plan is developed and contract executed.
- A Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) is formed.
- Research is completed.
- A final report is published.
- An implementation plan is developed by TAP.
