Welcome to the LRRB Web Development Guidelines
As part of the LRRB Research Implementation, the following
guidelines have been developed to assist Cities and Counties in developing and
maintaining their Web sites.
This document was developed for three specific audiences:
- Public works and highway agencies contemplating a Web site or a Web based project for the first time.
- Agencies with existing sites, the guidelines provide a tool to evaluate Web sites.
- Agencies that need language to give to consultants to direct their services and identify what is needed when a consultant produces the Web
site.
Since the intended audience of these guidelines is broad, there
are several levels of detail presented. In general, the beginning of the
document contains general topics geared toward readers with little practical
experience with the Internet and the World Wide Web. Most of the broad
discussions are presented in greater depth in the appendices.
We hope these guidelines are helpful and welcome comments. Good
luck with your Web page and keep in mind when beginning a website start with
small important pieces, make sure that they work, and then expand as needed. It
is often more important to have a simple, accurate, and up-to-date Web site
than elaborate Web site that fails to meet expectations.
