Full Mn/DOT specification available from Mn/Road.
Asphalt mixture meeting the requirements of this specification is required on all roadways carrying more than 3 million ESAL's. It is also required on all construction projects requiring more than 1,000 tons of hot mix with traffic less than 1 million ESAL's. Mn/DOT's long-term goal is to reduce the use of the Marshall mix design, and focus on the gyratory compactor, which is used in the Superpave mix design. More information on Superpave testing is available from the North Central Superpave Center. Design
Criteria Click here
for the Superpave binder specification that Mn/DOT has used since 1997.
General Notes1. Minimum
lift thickness: 2. Aggregate sizes specified and Contractor options should be used unless lift thickness precludes large aggregate otherwise specified. 3. Specify size A when course/lift is identified as 40 mm (1-1/2") or less. 4. See Typical Sections for individual lift/course identification. 5. For mainline paving, select asphalt binder grade from Tech. Memo No. 99-03-MRR-01. For shoulders where traffic allowed, use the same binder grade as the mainline. For shoulders where traffic is prohibited, select either PG 52-34 or PG 58-28 by matching with the mainline low PG number. (i.e., for mainline PG 64-28, shoulder binder is PG 58-28.) 6. For slow and standing traffic, consider selecting a higher high temperature binder grade and/or mix type. 7. Designation for wear mixture placed on shoulders. Note 3.0% air voids. Table 2: Mixture Designation Example: SPWEB440E
The format
for 2360 Pay Items will be as follows: An example
of the pay item for the above mixture designation is: Note: Numbers in parenthesis denote the traffic level and the PG grade. Home
